The first wave of reviews of\u00a0Zootopia 2<\/em><\/a>arrived on social media, and the sequel is already turning heads ahead of its worldwide debut. Disney’s new animated movie is coming out nine years after the original, and it’s clear that anticipation is sky-high.\u00a0Zootopia 2<\/em>\u00a0reunites the fan-favorite buddy cop duo of Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) as they get entangled with a brand-new conspiracy involving a mysterious snake who arrives in the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zootopia 2<\/em> has a lot to prove, especially after the first film grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. With the sequel’s creative marketing in full swing<\/a>, combined with Disney’s strong expectations, a lot is riding on Zootopia 2<\/em>‘s potential success, and thankfully, the first batch of reviews is unanimous in its praise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Critics who attended the world premiere of\u00a0Zootopia 2\u00a0<\/em>in Los Angeles shared their first reactions on X. The critics agreed that the animated sequel is great because ofits smart humor, strong dynamic between Nick and Judy, excellent animation, and resonating themes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entertainment reporter Jonathan Sims<\/a> described Zootopia 2<\/em> as “an absolute blast,”<\/strong> noting that the sequel has “more action”<\/strong> and it’s a “feel-good family adventure:”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Zootopia 2 is an absolute blast. A fun expansion of the world of Zootopia. Nicknd Judy are back as a dynamic duo, trying to figure out their partnership. More action, delightful characters, and a new Shakira banger. A hilarious, feel-good family adventure.”<\/em>Collider’s Rachel Leisman<\/a> said that Zootopia 2<\/em> made her want “a fox and a bunny to be in love,”<\/strong> pointing out that it is “a cute movie about love, friendship, and the need to prove ourselves<\/strong>:”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gregory Ellwood<\/a>\u00a0of The Playlist hyped up\u00a0Zootopia 2\u00a0<\/em>as a film with\u00a0“stunning animation,”<\/strong>\u00a0while also praising Ke Huy Quan’s performance:\u00a0“Zootopia 2 is great. Smart, creative, funny, and stunning animation. And moving. Ke Huy Quan for the win\u2026again. Watch out Kpop, you got competition for that Animated Oscar.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel Baptista<\/a> of The Movie Podcast said that Disney delivered a “wildly smart and outstanding sequel that’s well worth the wait”<\/strong> with Zootopia 2<\/em>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jared Bush, Byron Howard, and the Disney Animation team have delivered a wildly smart and outstanding sequel that\u2019s well worth the wait. Fandango’s\u00a0Erik Davis<\/a>\u00a0loved\u00a0Zootopia 2<\/em>\u00a0even more than the first one, praising its\u00a0“sweet, honest story about finding the courage to tell someone they truly matter:”<\/strong>I watched all of #Zootopia2 with a big dorky smile on my face. Loved it\u2026 maybe even more than the first one. Yes, it\u2019s totally unhinged and full of amazing animal puns and gags, but it\u2019s also a sweet, honest story about finding the courage to tell someone they truly matter. It\u2019s quick witted, very pro therapy and full of great references (maybe even a silly blink-and-you-miss-it cameo, too) \u2014 definitely a big recommend from me. Zebros forever!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wrap’s Drew Taylor<\/a> admitted that Zootopia 2<\/em> “exceeds expectations,” <\/strong>hinting that the film’s mystery is “terrific.” <\/strong>Taylor also pointed out that one surprising aspect of the sequel is “how thematically rich it was:”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mystery is terrific but what struck me most was how thematically rich it was – Jared Bush and Byron Howard packed so much timely social commentary into a VERY funny, highly emotional, brightly animated romp. Film critic Michael J. Lee<\/a> claimed that Zootopia 2<\/em> is a “bit darker,”<\/strong> yet it is “just as fun as the original:”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Zootopia 2 is just as fun as the original. The film doubles down on its fast-paced buddy cop energy and animal puns. The story is timely and has themes that should resonate.
