Shopping in small, independent businesses is becoming increasingly popular, especially in the aftermath of the huge impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. The various lockdowns sadly lead to many local businesses closing their doors for good.
There are however plenty across Essex who are still open and rely on the custom of locals to keep them going. In Colchester, you can find lots of small independent shops down the town’s “South Lanes”.
The South Lanes refers to the shopping areas in Sir Isaac’s Walk, Eld Lane, Trinity Street and Scheregate Steps. Around these streets, you can find hairdressers, vape shops, fashion shops and more.
The area is still incredibly popular to this day with shoppers, and is one of the highlights of visiting Colchester. There are a range of businesses in the area, from the Meow Cat Cafe where you can enjoy a cuppa with a furry freind, to No Name Bar and Games, Dice & a Slice Board Game Cafe.
There is also a traditional sweet shop as well as Artisan clothing store in the area too. It is filled with an abundance of shops and eateries – making it clear as to why The Lanes are so popular with locals and visitors alike.
